If you have not applied to attend the “Train the Trainer” event on February  17 – 18 in Port Richey, we still have room in the class for Florida residents. Remember that all expenses will be covered for those who attend. The participants will take this training back to their community and commit to present this information between 5 and 25 times within the next year.

If you are interested in bringing about a change in infant practices that will reduce the incidence of SIDS and improve infant health, and you can make a commitment to implement this training to between five and twenty groups in a year, you should consider applying to attend. This training can be presented to groups such as parent organizations, mother’s groups, childcare providers, Rotary and other civic groups, health professionals, high schools, Lamaze classes, community and health education programs, and employee wellness and education programs. If you are already an active member of any of the above groups, you have an opportunity to impact the members of your group with this message.

If you are interested, open the registration link below.  Send the form back to sidsfla@yahoo.com.

Train the Trainer Agenda

The Florida SIDS Alliance was included in an article published Sunday, December 5 introducing the new federation, Central Florida GIVES! As one of the founding members, we are proud to be a part of this new approach to have direct contact with the donors of Central Florida. All non-profits that join will be screened by Community Health Charities Florida. Each has to meet guidelines in the State of Florida and nationally to maintain the IRS designation of a 501(c)3 charitable organization, ensuring safety for the donor.
Please read the Orlando Sentinel article and gives us your feedback. Let us know what you think of this new way to reach the citizens of Central Florida.

Welcome and thank-you to all new and expectant parents that visited our booth at the Regency Center Baby Fair – Saturday – September 18.  An invitation to join our electronic newsletter will be sent in the next couple of days. You will be asked to follow a link to receive future newsletters. Information about our organization and tips for new parents are included in the issues published every other month.
The drawing for the sleep sacks will be held on September 26 – an email or phone call will be used to obtain a mailing address.
An article was published in the NewsChief about the Baby Fair – check it out with the link below.

As requested, we have an agenda for the upcoming “Train the Trainer” Event on October 15 -16, 2010 in Lake Mary, FL. The link for the registration and for the agenda is below. This should help nurses and healthy start participants with approval from their workplaces and will provide all with a better idea of what to expect at the training.

If you have NOT registered yet, please send us your registration as soon as possible. We want to be able to make final reservations at the hotel to accommodate everyone, and make sure we have enough handouts and other materials available. We do have only 20 spots available, so don’t wait ’til the last minute to register.

For those who have already registered, you should be getting materials in the mail soon.  If you are not sure your registration has been received you can email me and I will make sure we have it.

Thank you so much for your interest in saving lives and making babies safer.

Two GREAT events are scheduled for March.

March 19 – Annual Memorial Golf Tournament-Alaqua Golf and Country Club -Longwood
For the third year, golfers are invited to play in the Annual Golf Classic at Alaqua. Last year the committee made this the easiest tournament to play in; all inclusive for the players was the registation, mulligans, and tickets for door prizes.

Truevance will again be the tournament sponsor. Truevance is a nationwide design and engineering firm for network intrastructure, headquartered in Jacksonville, with an office in Orlando. They are hosting the event in memory of Glenn Lampke – lost to SIDS in 1995.

Greenway Ford will be sponsoring a Hole In One contest with a new Mustang as the prize.

Registration is at 8am with a continental breakfast sponsored by Panera Breads and a shotgun start at 8:45am. Peach Valley restaurant is supplying snack boxes for each golf cart. Lunch will follow the tournament in the new “Journeys at Alaqua.” Free chair massages will be offered by Healing Hands Massage during lunch.

SIDS families are encouraged to become involved by sponsoring a hole. Memorial baby pictures will be placed at each hole -a reminder that this tournament is being held for those infants lost to SIDS and other infant deaths.

For more information and registration contact the Florida SIDS Alliance toll free number – (800)SIDS-FLA. Hope to see you there.

Walk-A-Thon at the Riverwalk in Jupiter
The Second Annual Kiara Dawn Walk-A-Thon on March 20 is in the planning stages for the Riverwalk in Jupiter. Last year’s event was a great success with over 40 walkers enjoying the wonderful venue along the water. If you are interested in joining the walk this year, contact Chris and Briana Price at KiaraDawnWalkathon@yahoo.com with any questions or comments that you may have.
